5 Tips for Summer Self-Care

Here are five tips to help you recharge and stay well this summer, plus a few important safety reminders.

1. Protect your skin.
Use sunscreen, wear sunglasses, and invest in a wide-brimmed hat.

2. Enjoy seasonal fruits and veggies.
Treat yourself to fresh produce like berries, watermelon, peaches, tomatoes and leafy greens.

3. Try a new outdoor activity.
Boost your mood and fitness with a fun, active hobby — like paddleboarding, biking, trail running or disc golf.

4. Set a sleep routine.
Longer days can throw off sleep habits. Aim for a consistent bedtime and consider blackout curtains.

5. Simplify your schedule.
Give yourself permission to slow down and relax. Choose one day (or evening) each week to rest, nap or do whatever feels rejuvenating.

Stay Safe this Summer

  • Always supervise children in the water. Be prepared for emergencies by learning CPR and first aid.
  • Grill safely. Keep your grill away from the house, tree branches or anything else that can catch fire.
  • Prevent bug bites. Use insect repellents containing DEET. Inspect yourself (and kids and pets) for insects after being outdoors.
  • Prevent heat-related illnesses. Choose water over sugary drinks. Avoid overexerting yourself.
  • Wear a helmet when biking, skating or scootering. A helmet can prevent serious injuries, even on short rides.
