A staggering one in two adults in the U.S. experiences musculoskeletal-related pain. Joe,* an RRD employee, is one of them.

Joe injured his back more than 10 years ago and has been dealing with back problems ever since. Being on his feet all day as a production coordinator was painful, and he was hesitant to lift things. Joe says he tried chiropractic care, and his doctor suggested surgery to help fix the problem.

“I was never really sure what to do to deal with it, except to tolerate it,” Joe explains. “Then I got an email about the [Hinge Health] program and I thought, ‘What the heck, I’ll give it a try.’”

Hinge Health is a digital exercise therapy program designed to help reduce chronic back and joint pain without drugs or surgery. Available at no-cost to RRD employees and their family members enrolled in an RRD National Medical Program, Hinge Health provides a personalized care plan and one-on-one support from a personal health coach or physical therapist. Exercise therapy sessions can be done anytime and anywhere.

“I work nights, so I really like that I can use this program when it works best for me,” says Joe.The exercises are similar to what the chiropractor gave me to do, but this is guided, which makes it easier to follow.”

Since participating in the Hinge Health program, Joe says he has little to no pain, his job duties are easier, and he’s able to enjoy gardening again.

“I feel better and more limber,” Joe adds. “I’ve come quite a way. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished and how flexible I am now.”

Joe says he plans to continue with Hinge Health: “I’ve been blessed to be able to do this program and reduce my back pain. I notice when I don’t do the exercises now, so that keeps me going. Whenever I do something to hurt my back, it takes days to recover now — not weeks or months. It’s such an improvement.”
